Any kind of restaurant? Music, movies, sports, politics, festivals, farmer's markets, kid friendly activities, and more are all at this site. My family uses this site regularly to help plan activities for the family.

Website #2

This is one of the sites that I check on a daily basis. It is easy to navigate and quick to load. I can quickly and easily find the main sports news of the day. Then I can go to any individual sport for more information and stories. Unlike ESPN's site you don't have to register to gain access to some of the stories.

Website #3

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/forecasts/WIZ065.php?warncounty=WIC133&city=New+Berlin

This is the National Weather Service website. I have it set to New Berlin because that is in the middle of home, my workplace, and my wife's workplace. It is a quick and easy to read forecast for the area. It is updated frequently and has links to different radar and satellite images. There are also links to different types of forecast graphs and charts for you weather junkies. By just typing in a cities name and state, you can instantly read the forecast for that location.

http://school.discovery.com/lessonplans/programs/invention-leonardoslegacy/

LENGTH OF LESSON:
Two class periods

GRADE LEVEL:
6-8

SUBJECT AREA:
Physical Science

OBJECTIVES:
Students will understand the following:

1. The six simple machines are the basis for all mechanical devices.
2. The six simple machines are as follows: the inclined plane, the lever and fulcrum, the wedge, the screw, and the wheel and axle, and the pulley
3. Leonardo da Vinci was one of the greatest inventors of all time.
4. Each of his designs implemented one or more of the six simple machines.

MATERIALS:
For this lesson, you will need:
Research materials about simple machines and about Leonardo da Vinci
Computer with Internet access
________
My thoughts: Simple machines is a unit that I already do in 6th grade. What is great about this lesson plan is that it integrates science, technology, social studies , and art. Students get to work in cooperative teams and research (books and online) one kind of simple machine. They share that information with the class. Then taking that information they apply it to the inventions of Leonardo da Vinci. Most people think of Leonardo da Vinci as an artist. In the links section students get to see his famous painting in a virtual tour and engage in interactive activities that explore his life as a scientist, an inventor and as an artist. In addition to all this, da Vinci was also famous for his code (sorry, bad joke).

Lesson Plan Review #3
This page was designed by M. Eagleston
CONGRATULATIONS!
You have won a $3,000 gift certificate for a one week vacation from Tumbleweed, the Magic Vacation Fairy. You may go to any one of the four Southwestern states with the adult of your choice.
Reading the Fine Print The terms which Tumbleweed insists you follow are:
+ You must plan the vacation from start to finish without exceeding the $3,000 limit.
+ You must determine the Southwestern state you would like visit.
+ You must decide the dates for your vacation.
+ You must select the places of interest and find the prices for admission.
+ You must choose a round trip airline flight.
+ You must find a car to rent for the week.
+ You must select lodging.
_________
My thoughts: The author of this site did a nice job grabbing the students attention and interest with the introduction. He included links to resources for Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. All the information that the students need to fill out their itinerary sheet was in the resource pages. This is defiantly an inquiry-oriented activity, which is a critical part of a Webquest. Since the student has to research all 4 states before making a decision they still would be getting information about all the states, not just one. Just think about how much more the student will learn, process, and remember learning about the states this way versus out of a text book. A project like this also helps with differentation. The same project could be used for any level of student and you be allowing the higher students a chance to expand.

Assignment #1 - "The Online Edge"

Assignment #1 - "The Online Edge"

The main idea of this article was summarized nicely in the last sentence, "blogs shifts the use of the Web profoundly, from users being passive consumers of information to becoming active participants." This is really true. I think of my use of the Internet over the years and it is endless hours of me reading the computer screen. Often I would start talking to myself (I know a dangerous sign) and say, "Boy, would I like to tell that person a thing or two!", or "Yes, I agree. I'm glad to hear someone else has the same opinion." Now with blogging, I can.

This article talks about getting school students actively learning. Active Learning is a big push in my district this year. So the article was timely. Some ideas for schools are the use of online diaries for self expression, journal writing, school communications, and Web logs. Did you know that 80,000 new blogs are created everyday! Wow!

Assignment #1 - "Blogging and the Law"

This was a very interesting article, hard to read, but interesting. Many people love blogging and are putting all sorts of things on their sites. Many of them believe that they can say and do anything they want because it is their personal site without consequences. That is NOT the case. You can be held responsible for what you put on your blog. The article gave some interesting examples like:

1. You can be exposing yourself to lawsuits. Company's and individuals can sue for libel you if make untrue negative comments about them.

2. If you put offensive and private information about others, they can sue you for invasion of privacy.

3. If you start ragging on your employer, they can fire you.

4. You can use other peoples ideas, articles, and quotes. However, if you present them as your own, that would be plagerism and could open yourself to legal trouble.

Have fun and enjoy the world of blogging, just be smart!!!

My first Blog

This is my first Blog. I just started my masters program at Marion College. It is for my first assignment of my first class.
